Exercising is a big part of my life. Years ago when I started going to the gym, it was strictly for vanity. But over the years, it has become one of the most important tools in maintaining my mental health. It helps me manage my stress and anxiety, and therefore, plays a big roll in my happiness. I found this awesome infographic that shows the connection between fitness and happiness. I hope it inspires you to get moving! Exercise & Happiness


Mexican food is my favorite. But since it isn’t the healthiest, I like to make my own tacos whenever I crave it. When I make tacos, I always use this homemade taco seasoning from Iowa Girl Eats. It’s way tastier and much healthier than the store bought packets. I just add about 2 tablespoons and some broth or water to a pound of browned meat (see the link for the complete directions). Then I pile corn tortillas with the seasoned meat, lettuce, tomato, refried beans, guacamole and a little Cholula hot sauce. Book Recommendation:

This week my recommendation is a really fun book called The Status of All Things by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke. It’s a heartwarming and hilarious novel that follows a woman who discovers she can change her life through online status updates. This book raises the questions: What if you could create your picture-perfect life? Would you be happy? Would you still be you? Product recommendation:

One of the most important things you need when going to the gym is a stocked gym bag. Over the years I have figured out the perfect contents to create the perfect gym bag. Here is what I bring with my every time I work out:

  • Reusable Water Bottle – I always bring a water bottle to gym, and pretty much everywhere I go, so I can sip water throughout my workout and day. Using a bottle also helps me keep track of how much I water I am drinking so I know if I need to drink more. I like the Nalgene bottles with the wide mouth:

  • iPad with Hulu or Netflix because watching something good is the only way I can survive cardio on one of those boring machines

  • Muscle Roller Stick – I use this everyday, before and after a workout and even sometimes when I’m sitting on my couch watching TV. My legs get super tight and using this stick really helps loosen them up, especially if I am sore.

  • Yoga Strap – I use this everyday to stretch after my workout.

  • Hand Wipes – The gym can be pretty dirty place!

  • US Weekly because we all need a guilty pleasure!
