A Weekly Dose of Happy Issue 6
Hi, welcome to the next edition of “A Weekly Dose of Happy” from HappyMonks. Here is a list of 5 things to help you start the week off with a little happiness! Enjoy!
As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, I am actively trying to practice gratitude everyday. I notice when I focus on the things I have instead of the things I don’t have, I am a much happier and less anxious person. My pilates teacher at my gym sent out this article from her newsletter and it shows how easy practicing gratitude can be. So, I decided to pass it along to all of you. And like she says at the end, “Do this everyday…and see how blessed you truly are”. Why Gratitude is Always an Ingredient of Success
Now that the weather is getting warmer (at least here in LA) and the days are getting longer, I have been in the mood for light and fresh meals. This Chopped Grilled Vegetable Salad by Pamela Salzman is exactly that and one of my favorites. I like to add shrimp to make it more filling and a complete meal. Enjoy! This week my book recommendation is The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. I love this book and have recommended it to many people since I have read it. Warning, it is a little sad but well worth it. It’s a mesmerizing, moving, and elegantly written novel that beautifully weaves past and present, creating a vivid portrait of an unforgettable woman whose gift for flowers helps her change the lives of others even as she struggles to overcome her own troubled past. If you’re looking for a book you can’t put down, definitely check it out! The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
Los Angeles is a big city and the traffic here can suck! To make sitting in traffic more manageable and keep my road rage from rearing it’s ugly head, I have started listening to audiobooks and podcasts. And it’s made a huge difference! One of my favorite podcasts is Modern Love. It features the popular New York Times column with readings by notable personalities and updates from the essayists themselves. The stories are about love, lost and redemption. They are relatable, interesting and entertaining. Sometimes I can’t wait to get in the car so I can listen to the next episode!
